Since my sewing machine is out of commission, I've had to come up with some non-machine required fabric projects. Yesterday I made this appliqué ducky tote. I used the Sew Bettie Big Fat Rubber Ducky fabric. This project is quick. All you need is some fabric, a blank canvas tote (available at any craft store), and double-sided adhesive interfacing (I used HeatnBond). The directions are:
1. Print the pattern and cut it out. Download the paper by right-clicking the duck image and saving the image on your desk top.
2. Place the pattern on your fabric and cut out a square a little bit bigger than the pattern.
3. Cut out a piece of your double-sided fusible interfacing that is a teensy bit smaller than your piece of fabric. You want the interfacing to be smaller so that you don’t get any of the goo from the interfacing on your iron.
4. Place the sticky side of the interfacing on the backside of your fabric. Iron them together. Your iron should be touching the paper side of the interfacing. Double check the instructions for the brand of interfacing you use since they might be slightly different than this.
5. Trace the pattern onto the interfacing’s paper.
6. Cut out your cute little ducky.
7. Peel the sticker off the back of your sewing machine appliqué. Place it on surface you want to apply to it. Iron it in place. Make sure you iron the edges really well. You can stop here, but you may want to add a blanket stitch or split around the edge of the appliqué. It makes the appliqué sturdier and, or course, looks adorable.
Since the duck drawing is Mark's original artwork, please don't make totes using this design to sell. But they sure would make great gifts!

It looks like you stay busy crafting all the time - with or without machine!
Oh what a great tutorial! :) Thank you!
This is absolutely adorable. Thanks for the tutorial! I think it's so generous that you provide those...really gives the untrained sewer, like myself, some inspiration...and confidence!
And such sweet packaging below, too:)
great tutorial! And I love your new packaging. What a relief your machine can be mended.
