I love adding decorative beading to fabric. In the top picture, I added red beads to Little Bonsai Birdy fabric from my Sew Bettie collection. Beading is a fun, simple (albeit time consuming) way to add texture to fabric. I stretched this piece of fabric and hung it on my wall, just like I'd stretch an oil painting.
I photographed the step-by-step process I use to add beading to fabric. Each number corresponds to the stitch you should make. The basic steps are: String 4 beads onto quilting thread and secure them. Place the needle behind the last 2 beads and poke it through. Then thread the needle through these 2 beads and add a few more beads. Secure and repeat.
I should warn you that beading can be addicting. I have this huge collection of glass seed beads that I bought on a trip to Paris in college. I was traveling with a friend. He thought I was insane when I bought enough seed beads to last a life time.

I am a bead addict too, I am sure there is some sort of help group we can join!
I happen to have some glass seed beads in the closet that didn't know they would be coming back out again. Thanks for the idea and for your note on my blog!
I love beads too and adding them to bags etc.....
What a fun blog you have! Thanks for your comment on mine :)
I love your beading step-by-step. The end result looks gorgeous. I am tempted to give it a try ... but am afraid with my hoarding tendancies I'd end up with a stash of beads fighting for space with the stash of fabric!
PS. Thanks for visiting my blog. I'm wondering whether we should organise an odd sock swap!
You make it seem so simple! I'd love you to do a video sometime!!
OH have you seen that clover punchneedle tool? you can attach little beads and sequins just by punching the fabric...or something like that.
Thanks for sharing this. I'd love to give this a try.
That for the tutorial on beading. I'd like to do some to a smaller project but never knew how. I love beads and don't own a single one! Now that's a completely different story with fabric.
Hi-Thanks for stopping by my blog. I probably make lists a couple of time a day, too! I'm going to have to try adding beads to fabric soon- it would look great on some bags I am making!
Thank you for this loverly tutorial :)
Great tutorial! I used to sew beadings into some shirts and do it one by one, so that took a long time to finish anything!
Thank you very much for this useful tutorial!
I love beads!
