Simple Curtain Tutorial

I made these simple curtains for our bathroom out of the Chain Link Fence fabric and Mod Butterfly fabric. I really like curtains because they are a great way to add a large bit of your favorite fabric to a room and they take less than an hour to make. I do like the luxe look of curtains with a bunch of fabric, but in the bathroom I wanted privacy plus light to shine through so I used only enough fabric to cover the window. In case you've never made curtains, here is a simple tutorial for a basic curtain:

1. Measure the window. Add about 12 inches to the length and 8 inches to the width and cut out your fabric. (Note that you can make a room look taller by hanging the curtain a little bit higher than the window. If you want the curtains to have extra fabric so that it bunches double or triple the width of the window).

2. On each lengthwise side of the curtain, fold the fabric over 1/2" and then fold it over again 1/2". Press with an iron and sew 1/4" from the edge to form a clean hem.

3. On the bottom of the curtain, fold the fabric over 1/2" and press. Then, like you're wrapping a present, take each corner and fold it to meet the edge of the fold. Fold the whole bottom over 1/2" inch. Press and sew a seam 1/4" from the edge.

4. Finally, form a loop for the curtain rod. On the top of the curtain, fold the fabric over 1/2" and press. Then fold the fabric over about 3" and press. Sew a seam about 2.5" from the edge.

5. Hang your new curtain!

Thank you to Purple Pink & Orange for showing off the Sew Bettie Wristlet Pattern in a great $5 and under feature. I also want to thank DZ Fantasy for interviewing me. Read the interview here.
