The split stitch is my favorite embroidery stitch because it is easy and fast. The directions are simple. Make a stitch and then start your stitch halfway through the previous stitch (thereby splitting the thread with the needle). Repeat.

WOW. you explained this so well. I'll be linking to this. It's one of my favs too and I think people who might have been overwhelmed at all the different stitches will really enjoy this.
